discussion of result for balloon lander
by oliver wang
Main Parachute (1)
The main parachute was tilted to one side. As an effect, not helping the lander land on it's feet. What worked was the parachute did slow the fall of the lander. So it did half of it's job.
Mini Parachutes (2)
The mini parachutes were not placed corectly. When it is not placed correctly, it is not balancing each other out. Hence leading the lander to lean to one side. We did not have time to calculate the position and place it properly becuase we did not have much time to make the lander.
Parachute Connectors (3)
The parachute connectors were connected to the moving cardboard istead of the main cup. Causing the parachute to be moving when we threw the lander off the building. Another issue might be these connectors are bendable. We should have used less bendable one's because, it would allow the parachute to be positioned properly.
The Lander's feet (4)
We tried to get the Lander to land on it's feet because it was supposed to help break the lander's fall. Unfortunately, it did not get to be used becuase the parachutes did not make it land on it's feet. Even thought we did not get to test it, we were pretty confident if the lander landed correctly, the feet would have worked.
My own thought about this experiment
I think the materials that teacher gave us is seems like that we can make a parachute to make it slowly get down, but if we really thought about it a little we can see it cannot actually work very well. Also we don't has a good materials could make it stand safely, so I think the lunar lander that we are trying to make should perfectly protect the balloon.
