Larissa's Essay Based on Team Reading

by Larissa Kuo

Have you ever made a colony by yourself? What about choosing your own 10 laws? When laws are used to control behavior, however, they can give some people, groups, or organizations unfair advantages over others. We read some articles about laws and different political systems. Let me share with you what I read.

One topic we read about is the different types of political systems and what they do. One of the systems is called a Monarchy. A Monarchy is a government based on the undivided rule of a single person. By the early 21st century, examples of traditional monarchies were limited mostly to Arab countries including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. There is also one called Constitutional Democracy, they vote in regularly held elections to decide which political party, from two or more opposing ones, shall lead the government.

We also learned about the three different branches of government. The first one is the Legislative branch, this branch is in charge of making laws. Next, we have the Executive branch, this branch carries out and enforces laws. Lastly, we have the Judicial branch, this last branch is in charge of deciding the meaning of laws, how to apply them to real situations, and whether a law breaks the rules of the Constitution.

The last topic we learned is “10 Reasons Why Law is Important.” In this article, 10 of the facts are reasonable facts. But not everyone will agree with these facts. I personally think these are facts that I would agree with. Each piece of information they give has a meaning behind them. It is important to understand what they are trying to explain to us.

Now that we have covered all three topics that we read about, what do you know about politics and laws? These articles are very important for our project this semester, especially for our colony-making process. Do you think laws and politics are important?
