Observations from Roman Holiday

By Steve Wang

The men portrayed in Roman Holiday were all wearing formal looking clothing. Today, most men do not wear formal clothing even at work. This might be because today, people are more practical and people have realized that there are more important things than looking formal. Also, society back then might just view dressing nicer as someone's worth more strongly than they do today.

The women portrayed in Roman Holiday would not really express their opinions. Today, most women would. Women have realized that their gender does not make their opinions invalid. There is also more gender equality now. Back then men had more power and they though women's opinions did not matter and women had less power so they accepted.

The men portrayed in Roman Holiday would try to help women in ways that would be misunderstood today, Today, most men would help women without touching them. This might be because there are very strict laws that prevent sexual harassment. Back then there were not really sexually harassment laws.

The men portrayed in Roman Holiday would walk very stiffly. Today, men are more relaxed. This might be because today our clothes and our lives in general have become more comfortable. Back then men always dressed in very formal and stiff looking clothes that may have affected they way they walked. Also, before, people may have view this walking method as having self control or something.

The men portrayed in Roman Holiday were expected to help the women. Today, men not so helpful. This might be because people are just less friendly in general and some people get offended when they are helped. Back then the world may have been less competitive and more community spirit.

The men portrayed in Roman Holiday were very willing to touch women. Today, men are not so touchy. Today there are very strict laws preventing sexual harassment and men do not want to be misunderstood. Back then there were not really sexually harassment laws and people were generally more friendly and less evil.
