There exists a very wide gap in the number of participants in tech fields between the two genders, with males making up the predominant majority. The reasons for this are varied and complicated, and the reasons that females make up such a small proportion of the participants in this area stem from both females' choices themselves and also the expectations and restrictions that society places on them. The students took the opportunity to interview Claire Zhang, an experienced and high achieving female programmer, to ask about her experiences as a female growing up and being educated, and her thoughts and opinions about working as a female in the tech industry. She spoke on the challenges and also the unique strengths of women in the tech industry. She also shared her experiences as being a female who is the main economic provider for the family and raising a special child, unique experiences that are not commonly understood by the general public.
