Interview - Growth, Education, Women in the Workplace <br>訪談 - 成長、教育、職場中的女性

(Interview with Gear8)

The topic of “individual value” is currently inseparably tied into the the topic of gender. Being born as and living our lives as a male, female, or other sets expectations, guidelines, and spoken and unspoken rules for the development and direction of our lives. One can choose to accept or fight the general social undercurrents of the times, but the influence of prevailing general gender norms is undeniable in each and every individual's evolution.

We visited our friends at Gear8 Taiwan, a website design company, to ask about how their experiences as females growing up in society has influenced their lives. Part one of the interview asked them to speak about how they were treated as children, and the kinds of messaging that family and society gave them.

Part two of our interview asked Ann and Carina to speak about their early adulthood, beliefs about men and women in personal relationships, and the rights and role of women in relationships and the family. The past differences they observed between men and women is described with interesting and personal stories.

In part three, our interviewees share details and memories from their experiences searching for jobs and in their career development. They discuss differences or similarities for men and women in the working world. They conclude with a final message about their beliefs and advice regarding the issue of gender and the workplace.

After receiving valuable feedback to their interview questions, the students reflected on their findings, feelings, and new ideas. They compared what they imagined about the past and the actual responses they gathered. The students then tried to make logical conclusions about the meaning and reasoning behind some of the realities they heard about. They finished with some reflections about this complex issue that they will further explore in their lives.
