"Good Morning" Experiment

By Steve Wang How friendly are the people in Taiwan? To test this actors of both genders are waving at people and saying good morning to see if and how they react

The table below is the researcher's original guesses of the results.

genderFemale Act(Zoey)Male Act (Steve)
(see) Malegreet (males usually have not problem greeting females)greet(males like to mess around together)
(see) Femalegreet(Females greet females)greet (females are usually friendly)

It seemed like people around this area are quite polite and greet others when greeted. However, it would seem like females are particularly friendly towards females. All the other situations (situations when it is not female greeting female) got about 5 people who reacted but for females greeting females there was 8 people who greeted back. (total 46 people tested) This might be because females are good at empathizing with each other. This might also tell us that males are just unfriendly towards strangers and maybe more shy. This is in contrast to what people believe about genders in society. Males are generally viewed or expected to be braver while females are allowed or viewed as shy. Another reason might be because people are less shy when greeting people of the same gender but males are just more used to competing with other males in very traditional environments. This might be because traditionally, males are often the ones working at jobs and they might have had to compete with each other to get a higher salary or a promotion

Females are usually more agreeable which may have caused females to greet females because both sides are agreeable. A person having a higher level of agreeableness tends to be compassionate and value harmony, while low scorers may be more competitive or critical. Both sides being very agreeable may have been the main reasons for females being so helpful to each other.

With this new-found knowledge, when thinking about pairing people up in teams. In some situations, it might be better for females to be paired up with each other because they are friendlier towards each other and there might be less chance of conflicts(purely according to the data).
