On 15 September, Mr.Cheng came to educate us about our point of view and perspective. He came from the Environmental Quality Protection Foundation (EQPF). The EQPF is the premier environmental non-governmental organization (NGO) in Taiwan and it has long focused its work on education, tree planting, climate change and international involvement. Mr.Chang came to talk to us about viewing environments from different kinds of views: history, nature and humanity.

First, he defined what an environment is and what kind of environments there are. He stated that according to Article 2 “Environment” as used in this law refers to the: The various natural resources and natural factors affected by man-made. Weighing, including sunlight, air, water, soil, land, minerals, forests, Wildlife, landscape and recreation, social economy, culture, human history Sites, natural relics and natural ecosystems, etc. Mr.Cheng expressed the importance of defining the meaning of environments because he planned on teaching us about viewing environments from different viewpoints

Second, Mr.Cheng put forth the idea of thinking from the three points of view: history, nature and humanity. He then explained when someone is looking at something from a specific kind of view they value it more than others. For example, someone is trying to make a natural reserve safer for visitors. They could choose to not allow visitors entrance or they could allow visitors to enter with cars. If they look at it from the perspective of humans, they would allow humans to enter with cars. However, if they looked at it from the nature point of view, they would not allow humans to enter.

Third, he expressed his concern over how humans are destroying the environment. In modern society humans build things to make their lives easier. For example, people have built boats and planes to import food. We have built factories to create electricity. He explained that some of the things humans have built are causing harm to the environment. One of the examples, he also informed us of a Sailing Yard on Bali District in New Taipei City. The industry was secretly discharging waste into the water causing it to be polluted. Another example he made was in Laotianliao, Touwu Township, Miaoli County. The stream there has been polluted and people are worried it will be an ecological catastrophe. He also mentioned that the nuclear plant in New Taipei City has been leaking warm drainage into the water.

In conclusion, Mr.Cheng wanted to express the importance of understanding the three different points of view: history, nature and humanity and the importance of looking at things from different viewpoints. If we do not, we might continue to destroy the environment we live in.
