The Image of the Elderly In Society 年長者在社會中的角色形象

Among the main topics of this semester's work was that of aging society and its elderly members. If we are to attempt to devise ideas to facilitate an easier life experience for these treasured members of our community, we will need to start by considering their current role in the social group and how others perceive them.

本學期學習工作的主要議題之一是老齡化社會及其長輩成員。如果我們要嘗試設計一些想法來為我們社區中這些寶貴的成員提供更輕鬆的生活體驗,我們需要首先考慮他們目前在社會群體中的角色以及其他人如何看待他們。

The students considered their own perceptions and thoughts about elderly in society, how they see and think about the elderly, and the reasoning behind their beliefs. Later, they interviewed some working professionals to gain a different perspective and understanding on the issue. This helped the students better understand how society views the elderly, which in turn affects how infrastructure and policies are structured (or in some cases not structured) to provide an easy and inclusive environment.

學生們考慮了自己對社會上老年人的看法和想法,他們如何看待和思考「長輩」這個概念,以及他們這些認知背後的原因。隨後,他們採訪了一些在職人士,取得對這個議題的不同看法和理解。這有助於學生更好地了解社會如何看待老年人,進而影響基礎設施和政策的設計(或在某些情況下沒設計)以提供輕鬆和包容的環境。

An important part of each semester's learning in our program incorporates hands-on experiences in making social contributions. This semester involved ourselves by helping out at the Taipei City Datong Elderly Daycare Center, where we took part in tidying and cleaning the environment and providing some company and conversation to the members there. This was the first time that the students observed and paid special attention to how things are situated, planned, and designed to perform particular functions for this section of the population. They were surprised and interested by some of the things they discovered.

在我們的課程規劃中,每個學期學習過程的一個重要項目是做出社會貢獻的實踐經驗。這學期我們透過到台北市大同老人日託中心的協助任務來完成部分這方面的課程必要條件,在那裡我們參與了環境的整理和清潔,並與那裡的成員進行了陪伴交流。這是學生們第一次觀察並特別注意日照中心是如何借由架構、規劃和設計來為長輩族群來發揮特定功能。學生對他們發現的一些細節感到驚訝和興趣。

Oftentimes, society's default way of discussing the elderly focuses on what they have difficulty with, or what they are no longer able to do. It is easy to forget and ignore the great abilities, value, and achievements that the elderly are able to share. The class took part in appreciating the contributions that the elderly can produce by cheering them on at the Senior Broadway Show produced by Hondao Senior Citizen's Welfare Foundation.

通常,社會默認的討論長輩議題方式集中在於他們有什麼困難,或者他們無法做什麼。人們很容易忘記和忽視長輩能夠分享的巨大能力、價值和成就。班上同學的學習過程中也從反面思考了這個議題,參加了弘道老人福利基金會製作的老年人百老匯表演,欣賞了長輩可以做出的驚艷貢獻和成就,為他們加油打氣。
