Research topic
In today's society, everyone needs to eat food. And everyone's requirements are very high. The food in the restaurant should not only be delicious also the speed of serving needs to be fast and the service should be good. When I think about these things, fast food restaurants are the best choice. so in this research, I compare the speed and services between McDonald's and MOS.
History of McDonald's
McDonald's is the biggest fast-food restaurant in the world. Now McDonald's is everywhere in the world, Even in very backward countries. until now there have been more than 38,000 McDonald's restaurants with 2.1 million employees. The founders of McDonald's fast food are McDonald's brothers. They actually opened a restaurant together in 1937. After about 10 years of operation, they found out that the most popular food is burgers, so they decided to open a burger restaurant. A restaurant that only sells hamburgers is called McDonald's fast food restaurant. This was the first McDonald's in the world in 1948.The first McDonald's in Taiwan opened in 1984, when McDonald's came to Taiwan most people went to eat so less than a month after opening, it exceeded 1 million NTD on average a day. until now there are more than 390 McDonald's in Taiwan. Now McDonald's is over 74 years old.
History of MOS
MOS burger has opened in Japan, The first store in Japan opened in 1972. Until now there are more than 1721 in the world,303 are in Taiwan. MOS burgers are different from normal fast food restaurants. MOS attaches great importance to environmental hygiene and food safety, So their foods are mostly low fat and low calorie and use rice substitute bread like rice burgers. The first MOS opened in Taiwan was in 1991.MOS is currently the second-largest fast-food restaurant in Taiwan now.
Research topic and methods
The main research topic is to“Compare two different “ fast ” food restaurants and see which ordering and serving times are faster? and why is it faster?”.Researcher are focused on two different types of service. one is “people'' the other one is “process”. The reason why the researcher chooses these two different types of service is that it can easily show people the difference between two fast food restaurants. So on the weekend researcher went to McDonald's and MOS at dinner time about 6 to7 p.m, sitting there for 30 mins to observe other people. The two main points that the researcher observes are timing, ordering and serving time, and seeing what each employee is doing. Then write down what the researcher sees.
Data collection
The first observation point is “after the customer order, how long can a customer get the food?”. The data shows that McDonald's is relatively fast, but in fact, the difference between the two of them is less than 1 minute. The reason why McDonald's is fast is that there will be at least nine waiters in a store, and each waiter has their own serving block, so each person won't do a lot of things at the same time as Mos. Once the customers become more and more, the meal speed will get slow but McDonald's won't, For example, when I went to Mos to observe, a waiter had to do at least three to four things at the same time, such as helping customers order meals, drinks, soup, etc. In comparison, there are really few waiters in Mos, because there are only three individuals. But McDonald's has nine waiters so McDonald's is faster than mos. The second major observation is how long it takes to order food. The data shows that McDonald's is still relatively fast, but the difference is less than 3 seconds. McDonald's actually advocates online ordering now, so if you want to order face-to-face, it will take a long time to line up.
Results
Discussion
Although the data shows that the time of MOS is similar to that of McDonald's, in fact, MOS should be much slower than McDonald's. At the time of observation, MOS only had five to six customers, but McDonald's had 15 customers. McDonald's is really good. , because although many customers ordered a large amount of food, he was still more than ten seconds faster than MOS.
The researcher thinks that although both are fast food restaurants, they give two different feelings. McDonald's overall gives a more urgent feeling. Every waiter seems to be busy and speaks quickly, and there are fewer seats, so Usually people who go to McDonald's take it and leave. MOS is relatively like a restaurant, the environment is more comfortable, the waiters are more friendly, and the speed of meal delivery is relatively slow. The whole pace is not like a fast food restaurant.
