Needs and Wants 需求與慾望
One of the first and most obvious things we learned was that people will naturally (and often automatically) place their attention and sensory processing power on items that they themselves feel are related to their “needs”. However, what we consciously state to be our main concerns, interests, and needs often do not match what we subconsciously crave. The students studied and reflected on the meaning behind Maslow’s hierarchy, contemplated their own wants and wishes, designed and conducted research regarding people’s self-reported feelings of the difference between needs and luxuries, conducted an in depth case study regarding perceptions of needs, and attempted to analyze their own behavior in this respect by studying their own spending habits.
Needs and Wants
The students think about their some of their own wishes and think about the reasoning behind these wishes. The goal was to begin thinking more logically about the different between needs and wants.
Analysis and Thoughts on Responses to “Want” Survey
The students reflect on and discuss the results of field research regarding people's attitudes and beliefs about needs and wants. The goal was to analyze if there are clear differences in responses from subject groups depending on life stage and gender.
Research on Perceptions of Necessity Among Differing Age Groups
The students formally analyzed the data collected and provided discussion and conclusions in an academic format.
Basic Structure of Case Study Interview
After performing quantitative research regarding needs and wants, the students designed a more in-depth research to collect more detailed information regarding this topic. After scripting a short interview, the students also first tested for suitability and ease of administration with their classmates.
Case Study Report
After performing the case study interview on two subjects, the students once again produced academic reports.
