Reasoning for Initial Supermarket Design

By Yiler Huang

This is my reasoning of my first supermarket design.

Basically, I put things I like more closer to the entrance so I don't need to spend the time to find them.

I put the bakery section close to the entrance because I like the smell of breads, and I felt like it will be nice if people can smell the “bread smell” before they walk into the supermarket.

I made seafood and meat one of the second closest section to the entrance because I eat them a lot and I thought it would be good if I can find them right after I walked into the supermarket.

I made snacks another second closest section to the entry because I snack quite often and it would convinient if I can find them right beside the entrance.

I have two cats, so it will be convininet if I can find cat food or other pet-stuff close to the entrance.

I am something of a fan of dry foods and I don't like the feeling of looking for things, so I put it close to the entrance.

I am interested in electronics so I put it close to the entrance.

I put dairy where it is because I sometimes drink milk or eat cheese. Also, it can share the same fridge with the vegetable section.

I put vegetables where it is because I am not the one in charge of buying things from the supermarket in the family, so I put it there purely because it can share the same fridge with the dairy section.

I sometimes have frozen food for dinner or lunch so I made this sectin big and easy to spot. It it not very close to the entrance so people can get them before they leave and the food won't melt.

I put this section where it is because I buy handsoap a lot and it would be easier to find them if they are closer to the exit.

I don't buy medicines a lot so I put them in the corner of the supermarket.

These two are my two favorite kind of foods, so I gave them the beggest section and close to the counters to keep them fresh.

I put the flavors here because I need wasabi and soy sauce to eat with the sushi and sashimi.
