Organization and Interpretation in Perception

By Yiler Huang

This is a reaction to Organization and Interpretation in Perception we learned in a class.

Today, we learned that people organize the inputs they receive before they start interpreting them. We know that people have the ability to sort things they feel and make sense of them. However, if the inputs don't have clear connection or are unusual, it is sometimes hard for people to organize it and understand it. This is because when we are organizing and interpreting messages, the results depend on our past experience a lot. Therefore, an uncommon or illogical combination of message or input could be foreign to human mind and cause it hard for us to understand. We can use this to influence people or communicate with them more effectively by not putting too many different things in the message we are giving the subject. On the other hand, we can also confuse them by putting a lot of unrelated information in our message to get the effect of influencing people. We can also hide keywords that are related and make them think about something unconsciusly.
