Analysis and Thoughts on Responses to “Want” Survey

By: Steve Wang

Looking at the data, I realised the sample size of females was double the one of males. So, in the end result, if I compared things between gender, I would have to divide the percentage of the female results by 2 for it to be equal. It is complicated so, I have opted to disregard gender and only look at age. It was discovered that the sample size of students/children was exactly equal to the sample size of working aged adults. So, most of the comparison should take place there.

Group 1 is people that are students/kids

Group 2 is people that are working

Data

Each age group chose things that are similar to others in their age group. Let us talk about group 2 first. About 35% answers had something to do with taking a break. Some of them used both their two answers on something along the lines of breaks, holidays, or vacation overseas. About 53% of their answers had something to do with money. All the data that I see here which includes other things like, robot vacuums, car, house, health, work, stable job, leads me to believe people at that age have very little time to do anything else other than earn money. I have come to that conclusion because they keep talking about having breaks and wanting money. A few of them even mentioned that they would like a stable job and tools that could help them with with their work. Group 1 also chose similar things as group 2. However, group 1’s answers were more geared towards their short term happiness like things they could wear, those include clothes, lipstick, shoes, fake eyelashes, necklaces, and watches. However, some of them chose some others red bulls, concerts, toys, and tablets. A few of them chose similar things to group 2 like money, time, vacations. In conclusion, I think group 2 mainly chooses things that help them in the long run and group 1 mainly chooses things that will make them happy in for the time being. For example, something like lipstick or concerts last for a short time. While a dishwasher for example will save you a lot of time. If it takes you 10 minutes to wash dishes and if you wash dishes about once a day, that would mean you use 3650 minutes a year to wash dishes. That equates almost 71 hours. However if you had a dishwasher, which would last for almost ten years according to this article, you would only need to rinse and put the dishes in and take the dishes back out. Which would take 5 minutes at most that would mean 1,825 minutes (30 hours) saved every year.

Conclusion 2

The answers in the “why” section of the table can be divided into two categories: human feelings and perceptions of oneself by others. The data reveals that many responses in the “why” section indicate a desire to feel superior to others. Additionally, the data also reflects the importance of human emotions in decision-making. Based on these findings, it is reasonable to conclude that a significant number of individuals base their decisions on their emotions and how others will perceive and judge them as a result of those decisions.
