Brainstorming Ideas For Testing Influence on Perception

By: Steve Wang

I want to test if people are more likely to display verbal signs of getting scared when there is video or audio. To put this in simpler words, are people more likely to scream when they hear audio or see videos. I would do heart rate but that is a little hard to test.

With this, I want to test the differences in their perceptions of sounds and visual elements. To test this the changed variable in my test will be the presence of sound and of video.

My hypothesis is, people will scream more when there is only audio because people are exposed and work with a lot of visual elements and fewer people work with mainly audio elements. For example, programmers, presenters, bankers, lawyers, basically, office workers, mainly work with visual elements. This is likely to cause people to be desensitized to more visual things.

In the experiment, I might show some people only the audio or the video from the same horror game or movie. At the jump-scare see how many decibels their screams are. Again I would do heart rate if it were easier to test.
