I believe these question makes us think about what we believe our responsibilities are. Considering what our responsibilities we were then able to decide what we needed to do next. The need to fulfill my responsibilities were a big deciding factor when I was making a decision. If I apply that to trying to communicate or influence someone, I believe that we need to convince them to believe accepting your offer or agreeing with you helps them fulfill their responsibilities and does not go stop them from fulfilling their responsibilities. Let us look at an example of convincing someone to go on a vacation. If I were to try to convince someone that is a workaholic with this concept, I would say: “ Hey we should go on a vacation, it will allow us to avoid burn out. Furthermore, when we go on vacation, we will be in a better mood which will help us improve our teamwork which could greatly benefit our work performance.” To allow that person to think we are not stopping them from fulfilling their responsibilities, we can add: “We should also bring our computers so that we can do some work in our down time.” I think that would work better compared to if you said:“ I am tried lets go on a vacation!” In conclusion, we should say something would satisfy their needs to fulfill their own perceived responsibilities. If we take a look a Maslow's hierarchy of needs, we can use that to helps us find out about what they perceive as their responsibilities. If we take a look at the same example, this person seems to be concerned the safety section and the self-actualization parts. So, we can attack from these angles. It might be a safety things because if he does not finish his job or do his job properly, he might be fired. It also might be a self-actualization because the person might want to ear more money or further their career. We can make use of this method by adding:“ If you get burnt out your work quality might decrease which will cost you that promotion.”. If your workaholic friend has been working hard towards getting that promotion, he would not want to get burnt out and loose it so, he might just accept your offer. <html> <style> html { display: none; /* Makes the image a block element */ opacity: 0; /* Initially hides the image */ transition: opacity 1s ease-in-out; /* Smooth transition effect */ } </style> <script> document.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", function() { document.documentElement.style.display = 'block' setTimeout(() => { document.documentElement.style.opacity = '1' }, 100) }) window.addEventListener('beforeunload', function (event) { document.documentElement.style.opacity = '0' }) </script> </html> steve-wang-attention-placement.txt Last modified: 2024/06/23 22:12by steve.wang Log In
