Wan Wan Wander No More is the result of one semester of hard work on the part of a special group of middle school first and second graders. Our mission was to learn about a social issue, meet the parties involved, understand the current state of affairs, attempt to identify and analyze the factors behind the many difficulties of the situation, and to put our work and effort into influencing people's beliefs and encouraging positive changes to people's actions.
To do this, we wrestled with moral and ethical questions, attempted to identify our own feelings and values regarding right and wrong, tried to differentiate between group and personal responsibility, and defined for ourselves what it means to be a “good social being”. We spoke with experts and non-profit organizations. We communicated with and gauged the attitude of the general public. We learned a lot of technology to help us communicate these discoveries to the public.
In order to spread what we believe to be a positive message throughout society, and to encourage the people of Taiwan and the world to take seriously the issue of animal welfare, particularly that of helping homeless animals, we planned to hold an art and learning exhibition revolving around this issue. We learned to use a wide array of design software and skills, from 2D to 3D, from digital to physical, from sound editing to visual editing.
Originally planned as a physical exhibition with various interactive and experiential elements, COVID 19 has forced us to move our work online. Although the timeframe for moving all the work to a digital format spanned less than a month, the students' hard work has allowed us to complete a product we feel quite proud of. All work seen here utilized open-source software, with all content completely student-produced. Even the website that you are currently viewing was put together by the students themselves, the data input keystroke by keystroke on our Dokuwiki-based wiki.
We sincerely thank you for your interest in our work, and your interest in the issue of animal rights and protection. If you can, please do what you can to help better the situation of our furry friends. Donate, volunteer, and spread the message. Maybe even adopt a dog from a shelter! For those with the means, giving a home to a homeless dog is the greatest gift possible. Above all, continue caring about this issue and encouraging positive action.
