Annoying and boring is what research can be if done for long periods of time. So, we need to make sure we research the right things so that we can get things done as quickly as possible. We have now read the suggested readings on AI and robots. Now, we need to do more research by ourselves to ensure that the rest of our project goes smoothly. To prepare, we should first understand the topic, next, we should review what we have learnt so far. Only then can we start deciding on what topics or subjects we need to research more in.
Our main topic is current and possible future uses of robots in different areas. Inside this big topic, there are smaller goals and topics we need to learn about. They are emerging areas and opportunities of robotic usage, possible dangers or challenges of automation, The Robot Curve, education in the future, robot rights, AI guidelines. We should also research the things we have already learnt about in greater detail. In Dr.Lee's suggested readings we have only gotten some information but not enough to fully understand all these topics. However, before doing more research, we have to be sure about what we have learnt so we do not do pointless research.
The suggested readings from Dr.Lee were about where AI is currently, how automation will impact jobs, The Robot Curve, and skills people will need in the future. These articles contain a lot of information that have allowed us to understand emerging areas and opportunities of robotic usage, dangers of automation, what The Robot Curve is and what skills will be needed in the coming future. To sum it up, other than researching more in depth about those topics, we still have yet to learn about if robots will need rights, and AI guidelines.
Researching topics like these is not always easy because there is a lot of guessing involved in topics like if robots need or will have rights. To solve this issue, all we have to do is look at the past because looking at history can help us predict the future (Gibelyou, 2019). Therefore, to research if robots will or need rights. We can look at something like animal rights. Animals used to not have rights not until modern times. Additionally, we can research what gives something rights or why something should have rights. To research AI guidelines, other than reading articles online, we could also read government websites and their policies written there. Doing so, we can find more accurate information.
In conclusion, we have a few topics to research about, we also did a little research about some of those topics. We now know what new things we need to research about and what things to research more in detail. Knowing these things, we will now have a better understanding on the amount of work we need to do. In my opinion the logical next step is to start researching the topics we do not know anything about. If we all do this, we will be able to ensure that this research is not only done efficiently so that we do not start feeling annoyed at the repetition of work and lack of progress.
