Self Serving Bias

By Daniel Chen

Self Serving Bias is when things go well, we often say, “I did that!” But when things go wrong, we tend to say, “It's not my fault, it's because of someone or something else.” The reason why the Self Serving Bias is a bias that everyone falls into is because most of people are selfish and like feeling good about ourselves, and don't like to admit they're wrong. For example there's a short movie competition and we get the champion, my classmate think that we win because we're good at making movies, but the real reason is that there's only few people signed up for the competition. Another example is when I get bad score, I will say it is because this test is very hard, but the real reason is I didn't practice. Self Serving Bias will slow down people from learning from mistakes and growing and keep making excuses. To avoid the Self Serving Bias we need to ask feedback from others and try to see things from different perspectives also try to remember.
