====== Status Quo Bias ====== By [[yiler-huang| Yiler Huang]] The Status Quo bias is a bias that causes us to hold onto our current situation instead of making a change. This happens because we have a stronger feeling about losing something than gaining something, and making a change often means we will need to get into an unknown situation and we might potentially lose things we are holding onto. Teenagers often get affected by this bias because teenage is the period people usually start developing a complete identity and becoming more aware of their emotions. This makes it so people are more likely to hold onto things that happened during their teenage years. People often feel strong connections with the desires they have during their teenage years, it could be something they want to do, something they want to buy, or other things they might want. Therefore, people would often still remember these desires when they are adults and try to fulfill them. Another example is the old houses people used to live in when they were teenagers. It is often hard for people to let go of these houses that they spent a lot of time with because of the same reason. However, a new house or a new environment could often be more comfortable to live in and people might have more chances to meet new people and opportunities if they are in a new environment, and these are benefits we can not enjoy if we are constantly affected by the status quo bias.
