Status Quo Bias is when people prefer things to stay the same because it feels comfortable and familiar, even if change might be better. The reason that people fall into it because they're scared of what could happen if they change, they don't want to lose what they have, they're emotionally connected to how things are, and it's easier to keep doing what they've always done. The reason that what happenings in teenage life have especially strong emotional weight for people is because they're steal figuring out who they are. Things like first group of friends and first school are things that people don't want to change, because it has special memories.
