In the first week of the semester, we designed a survey related to one of the themes of this semester: Needs and Wants. We asked them what are the two things they wanted the most in the past two months, and why do they think humans have wants. Eventually, we got 39 resspondents in total. 18 out of them are people people under working age like students or kids that don't need to go to school yet. 17 out of them are working age poeple, most of them are from the offices around us. The other 4 people are people who are already retired from work. I will try to catagorize the respondents based on their answers.
The first way we could catagorize them is by age. In the 18 students we interviewed, 14 oft them want physical or entertainment related things like concert ticket, boyfriend/girlfriend, motorcycle, necklace, gaming console, tablet etc. We could see that most of their answers are things that don't relate to their school work that much. Looking at the 17 workerrs, 15 out of them want things things that are related to their work or needs. Such as a new house, money, breaks, time, peace, a stable job, a projector, sense of achivement etc. The third catagory is retired or old people. Unfortunately, we only have 4 of this kind of subjects on our table when I was catagorizing the data(2023/02/02 1:07 p.m.). Only three of them have answers. One of them said he dosn't have any wants, one of them wants a bag, and the last person said she wants kitchen utensils and food. Due to the lack of information, I couldn't give a conclusion to the catagory. In the table, we could see that more of the students want things unrelated to their work or entertainment related things. While working people's desires are more about their work and life.
If we catagorize the respondents in females and males, we could see that 6 out of 26 female respondents want electronic devices. While only 1 of the male 15 respondents wants a electronic device. Which means about 23 percent of female respondents want electronic devices, and about 6.66 percent of male respondent want electronic devices. This could conclude that female are more likely to want electronic devices.
In the first week of the semester, we designed a survey related to one of the themes of this semester: Needs and Wants. In total 55 respondents there are 22 of them that are students or younger, 23 of them are working people, the other ten are retired or old people. We asked them about the two things they wanted the most in the previous 3 months, and why do they think human beings have desires towards getting things.
The first way I catagorized them was by age. Out of all 22 students or children subjects, 18 of their desired object were for enjoyment or entertainment. In comparison, only 7 out of 23 working people had the same kind of desire. If we look at the older of retired people, even fewer of them had desires towards enjoyment. Only 3 out of 10 of them said they want to travel overseas or go to concerts. This could be the reflection of how much stress people have in their. When people were still students or children, they were usually been taken more care of. When they grown adult and entered the society, there are less people or things for them to rely on so their desire of enjoyment reduces as they started losing time to enjoy themselves while hard working. Generally, there were also less old people who said they wanted things about enjoyment. I think it could be because they lived a long time in their life, so they have probably already been through the peaks of their life. Therefore, they didn't want as much enjoyment in their life anymore.
The second way I catagorize the respondents was by gender. Out of 37 femals, 5 of them said they want electronics and 2 out of 18 male also said so. If we ocnvert the number into percentage, we could see that there isn't a big gap between the amount of males and females who want electronics. I think this could conclude that the marketing of technology devices nowaday are targetting more at female clients than before so there is an almost equivalent amount of males and females that have the desire of getting electronics.
